Artist Simon Kirk
“My work draws from images and text collected in my sketchbooks which through free association create playful abstractions. I am interested in narrative, specifically the ambiguous subjective ‘hidden’ where the ‘story’ remains oblique or partial. The work is multidirectional and open ended. Meaning is inherent but impossible to pin down precisely.”
Simon Kirk’s works entitled ‘Claude’ won a place at this year’s Royal Academy of Arts summer exhibition.

Plot: A reporter and a janitor kind of try to solve a murder.
Review: You can’t tell from the plot line of the poster but this is actually a love story. The problem with this is that it’s kind of a creepy love story. Maybe it’s because Sigourney Weaver and William Hurt have no chemistry as Hurt comes off as a creepy stalker. Like his connection to Weaver is he lies to meet her, and then his reason for loving her is because he obsessively watches her news program every day. That’s a sign to dig further that’s a sign to run!
The movie just kind of drags along with no real tension or anything interesting.
Trivia: The original title was “The Janitor”

Artist Studio – Simon Kirk Fine Art
Simon Kirk exhibited and sold at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2013 and 2010. His work is sold at the New York, Hong Kong, Singapore and London Affordable Art Fairs.
He draws from images and text collected in his sketchbooks, which through free association create playful abstractions. He is interested in narrative, specifically the ambiguous subjective ‘hidden’ where the ‘story’ remains oblique or partial. The work is multidirectional and open ended. Meaning is inherent but impossible to pin down precisely.
His work is primarily layers of painting combined with collaged elements. However, he also uses the decollage technique - cutting, tearing or sanding away parts of the built up surface image to reveal layers below. The collaged text he uses is cut from pages of novels. In his variation of the cut up technique the ‘poem’ is cut out in one section. This is distinctive from the cut up technique - cutting out strips of words and re-arranging them randomly.Visit the Simon Kirk Fine Art studio to view a wonderful selection of artworks and find out more about the artist at www.fyshbol.com/marketplace/seller/collection/SimonKirk-FineArt
